The First Fendt Katana 65 Out of the Factory

Series production starts at the factory in Hohenmölsen, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

Fendt celebrated the completion of the first two Fendt Katana 65 pilot production machines on 4 May 2011. After three years of intensive development work, the first Fendt forage harvesters have now left the new manufacturing facilities in Hohenmölsen and have already been delivered to the first customers.

Since the Fendt Katana 65 was first presented to the public at the Fendt Field Day in Wadenbrunn last year, development of the Fendt forage harvester has continued to move forward intensively. “The Fendt development team has done outstanding work and has realised the ambitious goals. I am convinced that the Fendt Katana 65 sets new standards and will convince buyers with its numerous technical details,” said Peter-Josef Paffen, Spokesman for Fendt at the ceremony. “Buyers can expect the forage harvester also meets the high demands Fendt typically puts on quality and efficiency. The Fendt Efficient Technology philosophy also applies here: More from less, which means “harvest more with less energy requirement”. Now we will prove this to customers,” emphasised Paffen.

Technical highlights

The powerful 650-hp Fendt Katana 65 is powered by a 16-litre Mercedes-Benz V8 engine, which features the fuel-saving SCR technology. The Fendt Katana 65 not only sets a new benchmark with the 720-mm diameter chopping drum, which is currently the largest available on the market, but Fendt also takes a completely different path than competitors in the design of the corn cracker. The completely new cab, developed especially for the forage harvester, features the same operating concept as the Vario tractors and thus meets the highest demands. The standard-equipped rear axle suspension also guarantees ride comfort customer come to expect as high Fendt standards.

The Fendt forage harvester will be produced at the new AGCO production site in Hohenmölsen. The manufacturing facilities have been one of the four German locations of AGCO since July 2009. More than 80 employees are now at work on the 42-hectare site in the south of Saxony-Anhalt. In addition to forage harvesters, the heavy plate parts for the tractor factory in Marktoberdorf are also manufactured there.
